Therapy for teenagers navigating who they are, what they're experiencing, and where they're going.

Teenagers come to therapy for many different reasons. Some know exactly what they want help with, while others may simply know that something feels difficult or that they want a space to talk. You do not need to have everything figured out before starting therapy.

I don't believe therapy should be about trying to turn teenagers into someone else's idea of who they should be. My approach is collaborative and relational. I work to understand you as a whole person, including your strengths, interests, relationships, identity, environment, and the systems they move through.

Together, we might explore:

  • Anxiety, depression, and difficult emotions

  • ADHD, Autism, and other forms of neurodivergence

  • Executive functioning and managing stress or overwhelm

  • School stress, academic pressure, and burnout

  • Family, friendship, and other relationships

  • Identity development and self-understanding

  • Gender Identity

  • Self-esteem and confidence

  • Major life transitions

  • Grief, loss, and difficult experiences

  • Communication, coping, and navigating conflict

Teenagers are often surrounded by adults making decisions about their lives. Therapy can offer a different kind of space: one where your experiences are taken seriously and you have a voice in the work. I aim to create an environment where teens can be honest about what they are experiencing without being reduced to a diagnosis, a behavior, or a problem that needs to be fixed.

For Parents & Caregivers

Parents and caregivers are an important part of a teenager's support system. At the same time, therapy needs to provide teens with an appropriate level of privacy and autonomy in order to be effective.

At the beginning of therapy, we will discuss how communication, family involvement, and confidentiality will work together. I aim to collaborate with parents and caregivers while also respecting the teen's therapeutic space.

Confidentiality and consent

In Washington State, adolescents aged 13 and older may consent to their own outpatient behavioral health treatment. This means that, in certain circumstances, a teen may choose whether to participate in treatment and may have rights regarding the confidentiality of their mental health records.

There are important exceptions, including situations involving safety and emergencies. I will discuss confidentiality, its limits, and the role of parents or caregivers at the beginning of treatment so that everyone has a clear understanding of how the therapeutic relationship will work.
